MIXING AND
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
NORTHERN 120 EPOXY MORTAR PATCH KIT
PRODUCT MIXING: Mix the liquids
to be used in the 120 mortar system by combining part A with part
B and mix with a jiffy mixer for 2-3 minutes. This material can
now be used to prime the surface of the repair area. This
material should then be blended or mixed with the aggregate
supplied in the kit. Mix the aggregate and pre-mixed liquids
together with slow speed mixing equipment such as a jiffy mixer.
The amount of aggregate should not exceed 37 pounds per1/2 gallon
mixed liquids.
PRIMER: After mixing part A and part B together, the
Northern 120 liquids are used to prime the surface of the repair
area.
PRODUCT APPLICATION: The material
can be spread by using a screed box, rake or hard trowel. Spread
the mixed 120 mortar directly over the wet 120 liquids. Once you
have spread the 120 mortar it must be finished trowled by hand
trowel (small areas) power trowel ( larger areas) to full
compaction strength. Do not over-trowl this material, as this may
cause isolated blisters to form. Maintain temperatures within
recommend ranges.
DRY TIME: Light foot traffic 4-6
hours, full cure 2-7 days.
CONCRETE PREPARATION FOR FLOOR COATING:
Acid etching solution will not work properly on greasy, oily, or
painted surfaces. This concrete must first be cleaned with
either, Northern Aqua-Blue or Northern Scrub-Free, for heavy film
buildup removal.
Acid solution should always start at the lowest level of a floor,
usually the drains. Apply in a circular fashion out away from
drains. Remember acid solution will not work properly when poured
on "spent" or "used" acid solution. Acid
solution should "foam" or "froth" instantly
when poured on the concrete. Slow or no reaction is a sign the
concrete was not ready to be etched. Clean and repeat above
procedure.
Muratic or Hydrochloric acids are available commercially at most
hardware stores or pool supply stores. Mix 2 parts water with 1
part acid for good etching. Using a plastic watering sprinkler,
apply the mixed acid solution (always add water to the can first)
at a spread rate of 50 sq. ft. per gallon. Acid solution must be
"worked" into the substrate with a stiff bristle broom
to completely agitate the floor. Once acid solution stops
frothing (approximately 10-15 minutes) flush remaining solution
to drain and rinse floor thoroughly. "Do not let solution
dry". Rinse floor a second time with some household ammonia
to neutralize any acid residue that might remain.
