There is one thing to check on your system to ensure that your applications will run properly. First, double-click on My Computer. Then click on View and then Options. From the three tabs at the top choose View. Make sure that the radio button at the top is next to Show All Files. Click on OK and then close out back to the Desktop.
Click on the Start button and choose Find and then Files or Folders. In the Named: box type: winsock.dll and make sure that you are looking in your hard drive. If you have several hard drives please follow this procedure for all of them. With winsock.dll typed in the box click on Search Now. If the results show more than one winsock.dll file, please check the files for the following info: There should be one winsock.dll in the /windows directory (or the name of the directory where Windows 95/98 is installed) It should be 42KB and dated 7/11/95. If you see this in the /windows directory and you also see several other winsock.dll files, you should rename all of them. The easiest way to do this is to right-click on the other files and then choose Rename from the box. Type in winsock.bak or winsock.old to rename the files. When you are done you should only have one winsock.dll file on your system. This will ensure that your programs will function properly. Whether they are 16-bit or 32-bit applications they will work just fine with Windows 95/98. |
